Why is it important for me to participate in the VTrans update?

We need input from all Virginians to make sure VTrans guides decisions that improve everyone's quality of life. The projects, services, and programs arising from VTrans are designed to improve safety and opportunities for prosperity for all Virginia residents and businesses. Your ideas and insights will help to make sure those results really do come about.

We also need everyone's input to make sure the plan represents the best use of our "common wealth." VTrans guides decisions about publicly funded transportation investments that draw on revenue sources such as Virginia's share of the Federal gas tax, to which you and every Virginian contribute whenever you fill up your tank. You have a stake in creating the funds that support our transportation system, so you also have a stake in planning the ways in which those funds will be used.

How can I participate?

There are lots of ways to share your input with the VTrans team:

  • Stay informed! Check the Program Updates page to keep up with the latest project developments and activities, including draft reports and presentations to committees and boards. See the Frequently Asked Questions page for questions that are uppermost on people's minds.
  • Attend a meeting, participate in a survey, or join another activity! The Events page is continually updated with announcements about meetings and workshops held in communities and regions across the state, as well as links to online surveys and other opportunities to share your input.
  • Can't meet us in person? You can still participate in the process by reviewing our Online Public Meetings, where you'll find the presentations, materials, handouts and more.

Get in touch with the VTrans team! See the Contact Us page for details to reach key staff from the Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment directly with your questions and ideas.
